Our story

Moontree opened at the end of June in 2007, after a frantic period of rebuilding and refurbishing the space below Julie Ann’s shop “Baraka”. We created a large gallery space, a kitchen, a storeroom and two treatment rooms from what had been a very dilapidated basement.

For many years, Deborah and Celia had wanted to set up a practice together for Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy and Deborah and David had also been dreaming of setting up their own gallery. The Moontree Gallery and Holistic Health Centre is the result of these ambitions.

At first, the gallery only showed work by Deborah and David, but very soon artists, both local and from further afield, found us. Now we exhibit work by many artists, in many different mediums and styles. We usually have a “Featured Artist of the Month”, whose work is displayed prominently and whose exhibition is launched with wine and nibbles.

Artists have included those with an international reputation as well as beginners, students and groups, such as the Boscombe Life Drawing Group.

When “Baraka” closed in the autumn of 2010, we re-launched Moontree on two floors. Internationally known film director Ken Russell was kind enough to cut the ribbon and officially open the “new” Moontree on October 9th. 2010.

Our two treatment rooms were used by our in-house therapists, Deborah, Benjamin and Celia, as well as by a wide range of practitioners who brought their clients to Moontree. There was a large list of therapies and readings available. Moontree also held talks, workshops, courses and events on a wide variety of topics.

In September 2012, Moontree closed its doors for the last time. The Moontree name is now a vehicle for the work of David and Deborah who put on a number of exhibitions each year.
